Project Highlights

Herold Engineering partnered with the City of Nanaimo to deliver a resilient and environmentally responsible upgrade to the Serauxmen Stadium and Neck Point Parking Lots, demonstrating how thoughtful civil design can overcome complex site conditions while supporting
community focused infrastructure in areas of environmental sensitivity.

Project Context

Historic use at the Serauxmen Stadium site resulted in coal slag and contaminated soils at shallow depths. Herold Engineering developed a grading strategy that allowed all excavated contaminated materials to remain onsite, significantly reducing disposal costs while minimizing environmental impact.

The Neck Point Park Parking Lot project involved the development of a new parking area within an existing gravel lot located in an environmentally sensitive, high use public park. The design approach prioritized minimizing excavation to avoid impacts to known and potential archaeological resources while maintaining safe and functional access for park users.

Integrated Environmental Solutions

Stormwater management features were integrated into the parking lot designs to provide treatment of runoff prior to discharge into environmentally sensitive downstream systems, protecting local water quality and supporting regulatory compliance.
